Marthandam
Marthandam or Martandam is a major trade centre in Kuzhithurai municipality across National Highway (NH 47) in the Kanyakumari district of Tamil Nadu, India. Also known to some by the name Thoduvetty, it was a portion of Kanyakumari district which was added to the state of Tamil Nadu on November 1, 1956.
Marthandam is the second biggest town next to Nagercoil in Kanyakumari district.
It is one of the most fertile lands of Tamil Nadu and has the climatic conditions of Kerala. It has a railway line connecting the capital of Kerala, Trivandrum, with the southernmost tip of India, Kanyakumari. The station is still called Kuzhithurai. Marthandam is well connected to Chennai, Mumbai, Bangalore by rail service also bus service to all over Tamil Nadu.
There is a Lord Ayyappa temple in Marthandam at the banks of Kuzhithurai River.
This temple is known as either "Vettuvenni temple" or "Vedi sasthan Kovil". The latter one due to the fire cracker being burst at the temple as a mark of prayer to Lord Ayyappa. This temple is just by the side of National Highway NH-47 connecting Trivandrum with Nagercoil. The famous St. Antony's church is also located close by.
There is a famous Sree Krishna temple at Kannacode in Marthandam.Historical records say that Travancore king Sri Vishakam Thirunal who ruled from 1880 AD to 1885 AD used to pray every month at this temple to ward off his BudhagrahaDosham.Renovation of the temple has been recently done by contribution from devotees.Situated in a peaceful location on the banks of Tamravarni river,this temple is called Guruvayoor of Kanyakumari district.
The famous Trimoorthy temples called Mahadevar, Brahma and Mahavishnu temples are in one compound at banks of famous Tamraparni River just walkable distance from Kuzhithurai Bus stand. The Sree Chamundesari temple is just adjacent to the mahadevar temple. Though the temples are under Devaswam board but these temples are maintained by a best trust called kuzhithurai sree mahadevar shektra samrakshna samithi, with the help of devotees of this surrounding area the committee has spend a huge amount for the renovation of the temples. A large number of devotees from Kanyakumari and Trivadrum District are visiting Sree Chamundeswari Temple for special poojas especially unmaried girls for a good marriage life.

Temple is a popular
temple dedicated to Mother Goddess Shakthi near Nagercoil in Tamil Nadu. A 15 feet tall anthill is
worshipped as Bhagavathi Amman. The anthill has five heads and the belief is
that it is still growing. Currently the anthill has the
height of 12 feet.
There is a belief that the Mandaikadu Bhagavathi Amman Murti
stands on the spot where Adi Shankaracharya performed puja to a Sri Chakra.
The face of the murti of Bhagavati Amman can be seen at the
upper end of the anthill. There is also a Sri Chakra installed in the sanctum
sanctorum. The temple is built in the Kerala style of temple architecture.
Major Offering in the Temple
Silk clothes and mangalsutra are offered to the Goddess for early and good marriage. Those having problems with hand or legs or other body parts offer body parts made using silver.

Those suffering from headache and other ailments associated
with head offer Mandaiappam a sweet made using rice flour and jaggery.
Those couples not having children offer cradles. Those
people who believe that they are suffering due to evil eye or as a result of
the activities of other people perform Vedi Vazhipadu – lighting of temple
crackers. Other rituals including eat monsooru – in this ritual devotees keep
Prasadam received from the temple on the floor and eat it.
Festivals and Important dates
Full moon day (Poornima), Tuesdays, Fridays and Sundays are
important days in the temple. The most important temple festival is held
in Maasi month (February – March). The festival attracts a million people.

Kulitthurai (Marthandam) Railway Station (Tamil: குழித்துறை)(Station code: KZT) is the second biggest station in Kanyakumari District. For Train transportation the Martandam is the main hub for Kalkulam and Vilavancode taluka’s. The Kalkulam and Vilavancode taluka’s have the population around seven lakes. The Kulitthurai station is found to be centered between Trivandrum — Kanyakumari

Shivalaya Ottam of Kanniyakumari Distirict
Sivalaya Ottam means running from one Siva temple to another. On Sivarathri day, the pilgrims at Kanyakumari district worship at 12 siva temples covering a distance of 82 km within 24 hours by foot.
Pilgrims who cover the distance by foot observe ‘vridha’ for a week. Those who cannot run this distance, visit the temples in vehicles. Package tours are available at Trivandrum on Sivarathri day.
The temples are covered in a particular sequence starting from Thirumalai Siva Temple which is near Marthandam (40 km from Kanyakumari). The distance between the temples are as follows.
